Suhas has issued an advisory to the public, especially villagers on the fringes of forests, against the outbreak of Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), also known as monkey fever, in Wayanad district. The district administration directed Health Department officials to take steps to tackle the disease on a war footing, Mr. Suhas said. Mr. Suhas directed Animal Husbandry Department officials to ensure the stock of ointments to apply on cattle to curb the spread of ticks. One case was reported in 2014, but 11 KFD deaths and 214 suspected cases had been reported in 2015, of which 102 cases were confirmed. Though nine KFD cases were reported in 2016, no case was reported in 2017.
