A Waterford city woman has resorted to a fundraiser to help pay for modifications worth €150,000 to her house so her fiancée can come home. As local authority tenants, they can receive €30,000 of the costs through an adaptation grant for the home, but the family must come up with the rest. “Nobody has that kind of money,” said Caroline, speaking to the Irish Examiner alongside the couple’s daughter Sarah. A painful headache grew worse, requiring him to be brought to University Hospital Waterford. He is showing signs of improvement, Caroline said, but he has a long way to go.
