Water restrictions lifted across Hamilton, Waipā and Waikato - News Summed Up

Water restrictions lifted across Hamilton, Waipā and Waikato

After a summer of prolonged dryness and record water usage in some areas, water restrictions have been lifted across Hamilton, Waipā and Waikato. Over the hottest months, Waipā reached water alert four - no outside water use - for the first time, and Hamilton's water usage peaked at 87.6 million litres. However, most of the Waikato District stayed off water alert levels despite a drought, a statement said. That's because of good storage solutions and an awareness of water use due to water meters, Waikato District Council general manager of service delivery Roger MacCulloch said. More information is at smartwater.org.nz, a joint venture between Hamilton City Council, Waikato District Council and Waipā District Council.
