Warm christmas but a chilly New Year's eve

Hong Kong Observatory said Hong Kong may experience a warm Christmas holiday as the highest temperature may reach 22 degrees Celsius on Sunday. However, the forecaster said the weather will become cold appreciably next Wednesday as temperatures will fall to around 8 degrees on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day under the influence of an intense cold surge. It will be very cold in the New Territories and on high ground in the morning and at night. An easterly airstream will bring relatively mild weather to the south China coast during the weekend and early next week yet a cold front is expected to move across southern China next Tuesday, bringing a few rain patches over the region.
