Wall St. Edges Higher at Close

Stocks on Wall Street again ticked higher on Thursday as the continuing rebound in oil prices gave energy companies a lift. Stocks wobbled in the early part of the day, but energy companies stood out as the price of oil reached its highest point since the beginning of July. “It’s amazing how quickly things change.”Benchmark crude oil gained $1.43, or 3.1 percent, to $48.22 a barrel in New York. That gave energy companies a lift, and Marathon Oil rose 6.2 percent, while Devon Energy gained 3.3 percent. Silver gained 9 cents to close at $19.74 an ounce, and copper picked up 2 cents to close at $2.17 a pound.
