Waiotira freight train fire extinguishedSupplied Five fire engines were called to the Waiotira blaze on Thursday afternoon. Fire crews have extinguished a logging train locomotive which was on fire in Northland on Thursday afternoon. A Fire Service spokesman said five fire engines were called to a locomotive on fire in Waiotira, 30km south of Whangarei, just before 4pm. Crews had extinguished the blaze by 4.30pm, the spokesman said. A KiwiRail spokesman said the crew stopped the train after noticing smoke was coming from the locomotive.
