Nyriad is a start-up tech company planning to release its first product, a data storage system, later this year. The company has used students from Waikato University as contractors, nurturing their computer engineering skills in a real world tech environment. Interns were "paid to learn and paid to work", and it had worked well for the company, Simmons said.
