WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was reappointed on Tuesday for a second five-year term by member countries of the UN health agency. No other candidate challenged Tedros for the job amid continued difficulties in responding to the devastating coronavirus pandemic. Holding back tears, Tedros described himself as a child of war after signing the contract for his extension. In response, Tedros said an investigation into the allegations had been launched and promised to act urgently. Tomlinson and others say Tedros should ensure the WHO’s top priority in future health emergencies is to assess the science.
