By Gideon AdonaiTedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has been re-elected as chief officer of the World Health Organization, WHO for second five-year term on Tuesday. Earlier, on 23 May 2017 the Member States of WHO elected Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus as the new Director-General of WHO. Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was nominated by the Government of Ethiopia, and began his five-year term on 1 July 2017. Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus succeeded Dr Margaret Chan, who was WHO’s Director-General since 1 January 2007. Ghebreyesus is the first African to head the World Health Organization.
