With the World Health Assembly (WHA) registration deadline looming and no invitation for Taiwan in sight, Beijing issued a reninder that adherence to the "1992 Consensus" was a requirement for participation. He said that ever since May 20, 2016, Taiwan's government had failed to recognize the "1992 Consensus," which recognizes the existence of "one China with differing interpretations," leading to a standstill in cross-strait dialogue. Tsai has taken the message of Taiwan's WHA participation to social media, tweeting nine times on the issue to call for the R.O.C. 's inclusion in the World Health Organization sponsored event. In the past seven years, Taiwan has participated as an observer at the WHA, after the previous administration reached a tacit agreement with Beijing based on the "1992 Consensus."
