The plight of young people stuck in jobs earning just the minimum wage is starting to resonate as a major socioeconomic issue -- but what about the struggle of retirees trying to make ends meet? Some of these seniors are now working odd jobs after retirement just to make ends meet. A woman surnamed Shen who worked for 41 years isn't as fortunate. After giving most of her retirement savings to her daughter so she could purchase a home, Shen is struggling to make ends meet with less than NT$14,000 in senior labor pensions. According to the Ministry of Labor, of 918,010 receiving labor pensions nationwide, the largest cohort (315,376) is receiving an average of NT$15,001 to NT$20,000 per month.
