Article content continuedAlthough WE Charity was ready to navigate a difficult path this year, the political scandal that erupted from the student-volunteer program has posed “serious challenges that risk the entire organization,” said Craig Kielburger. Liberal MP Wayne Easter, who chairs the committee, intervened constantly to allow the Kielburgers to answer questions without being interrupted by opposition MPs. Angus quizzed Marc Kielburger about testimony heard earlier in the day from WE’s former chair Michelle Douglas, who said Marc Kielburger hung up on her after a tense phone call and, shortly thereafter, she was told to submit her resignation. “It was a huge amount of money that was given to your organization and Canadians are asking questions.”Marc Kielburger said he disputes that characterization of the conversation. Douglas told the committee that she resigned from the charity because she was blocked from scrutinizing mass layoffs at the organization in the face of the pandemic.
