Professor Wilcox says: ‘Using alcohol gel after hand washing can be seen as a belt-and-braces approach. ‘Most dispensers are designed to squirt out one application — enough to cover the whole hand,’ says Professor Wilcox. ‘I see so-called experts on TV demonstrating how to apply hand gel while they are wearing a watch,’ says Professor Wilcox. The rest of the time, carry an alcohol hand gel that has an emollient (a moisturising compound) in it.
