But those who knew Gemma, especially her loving family, feared for the vulnerable woman’s wellbeing a long time before her life was brutally snubbed out. And her mother, Sue Prince, says she believes her daughter would still be alive today if someone had listened to her and provided the care she needed. Mum Sue said she kept “humiliating” herself by continually going back to the authorities, but they “wouldn’t listen”. “As a family we’d been asking for help ever since Gemma was little, social services, teachers, the hospital, the doctor, whoever. But what Gemma thought would be a quick visit turned into an hours-long, brutal assault that would eventually result in her murder.
