Voting begins for Gurdaspur Lok Sabha bypolls


Apart from Punjab’s Gurdaspur constituency, polling also begins in the assembly constituency of Vengara in Kerala. Elections to the Lok Sabha constituency are being seen as a test for the Congress, which was elected to power in the state in March this year. The Lok Sabha constituency of Gurdaspur fell vacant after the demise of Vinod Khanna, who was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a movie veteran. The alliance saw a poor electoral performance in the state assembly polls. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has four members in the Lok Sabha from Punjab, made its electoral debut in the state assembly this year.
