SportFor the first time in the history of Beach Volleyball (BVB) in Sri Lanka (SL), 2 youth teams [Under (U)-21] have qualified for the World Youth Beach Volleyball Championships from July 11 to 16 in Nanjing, China. BVB was introduced to SL in 1992 at the first National BVB Championships held at Bentota Beach. The Men’s team was Mahesh Perera and Wasantha Ratnapala, and the Women’s team was Geethika Gunewardena and Thakshila Niranjali. In the Women’s tournament of 19 teams, SL came within the top 6 and also qualified for the World Youth BVB Championships. The Men’s team coach was former International BVB player Mahesh Perera, while the Women’s team coach was Sajith Nandasiri.
