Voice of the Mirror: We pay more in taxes to compensate for firms such as Amazon


Countries around the world have been trying to get these firms to cough up. Under plans for a digital services tax, Amazon will pay 2% on the services it provides. Amazon boss Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest man, must be laughing all the way to the bank. It is not so funny for the rest of us as we pay more in taxes to compensate for the amount firms such as Amazon avoid. At the moment, funding is not nearly enough to save firms from collapse, keep people in jobs and prevent hardship.
