TORONTO — A few days ago, the Toronto Maple Leafs would’ve been ecstatic at allowing one regulation goal versus a couple of Bigfoot teams from the Western Conference. But despite the dramatic drop in enemy offence, the Leafs still went home frustrated Thursday when they gave up a goal 20 seconds into 3-on-3 overtime to Vladimir Tarasenko and the St. Louis Blues. Morgan Rielly finally got to him late in the second period, just as scribes had discovered the fact that no St. Louis goalie since ex-Leaf Grant Fuhr had blanked the Leafs in Toronto the past 20 years. Toronto’s four-game home stand includes a chance for Andersen to get his third win against the Sabres in as many starts. The Leafs’ ability to win a season’s series against their long-time nemesis will go a long way toward sustaining any playoff hopes.
