Visitor spending in the Coromandel is on the increase


Visitors to the Coromandel spent a record amount of money in 2018 (file photo)Visitors are spending up large in the Coromandel with the region recording it's best spend to date. Visitors spent $470m in 2018, surpassing every other year on record and resulting in the Thames-Coromandel and Hauraki Districts seeing six years of year-on-year growth in visitor spending. Destination Coromandel general manager Hadley Dryden was confident the visitor industry would remain strong throughout 2019 despite indications that the tourism industry is softening. We're fortunate to have such a significant domestic visitor base that loves the Coromandel." Prior to this, the Coromandel had enjoyed 10 per cent growth for the 2018 year, higher than the 4 per cent growth experienced nationally.
