Kohli was out for a rare duck as Sri Lanka paceman Suranga Lakmal made a good use of the green pitch as the visitors restricted India to 17/3 after opting to bowl. This was his first since the Pune Test against Australia earlier this year and his sixth in Test cricket overall. Stumps is called with only 11.5 overs of play possible on Day 1 in Kolkata, 0/3 off 6 overs from Suranga Lakmal giving Sri Lanka the best of the day. This was also his first duck against Sri Lanka in whites. Kohli, however, bounced back with his 17th hundred when he hit 103 not out against Sri Lanka but has not looked convincing with the bat.
