The sports ministry clarified that the controversy erupted because of a language barrier between a member of Goel's team and a Rio Olympic official. However, Thakur feels that Goel is a seasoned politician who can do no wrong. The Indian Official has been advised to strictly follow the rules of Rio Organizing Committee and remove any misunderstanding that might have arisen out of tight security protocol. But, Vijay Goel ji is a very senior leader who understands everything and has been on foreign trips many times. The BCCI boss was also critical of the recent comment made by author Shobha De's on Indian Olympians at Rio.
