Vietnamese 'Datuk' charged with bribing maritime officers with RM350k - Nation

KUALA LUMPUR: A 41-year-old Vietnamese woman was hauled to the court here for allegedly giving bribes of RM350,000 to maritime enforcement officers. Tran Thi Mai, or also known as 'Datuk Maimunah', was charged with giving RM300,000 to one Muhammad Sani Abdullah, 31. The money was to be handed over to Sedili district maritime director Captain Amran Daud, 55, as an inducement to release three Vietnamese fishing boats. The boats were detained by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) for allegedly trespassing Malaysian waters to carry out fishing activities. The money was for the release of nine Vietnamese fishing boats seized under the Fisheries Act 1985.
