Videocon Telecom to shut operations from February 15

NEW DELHI: Videocon Telecom , among the smallest telcos in India, will shut down operations in the Punjab circle from February 15, bringing to an end its mobile services in the country. After migrating to a Unified Access Service licence, it sought spectrum validity for 20 years from October 2007, when it received in-principle approval for GSM services or dual technology from the telecom department. The department denied its request in 2015.The spectrum in Punjab is up for renewal in October and a decision on its validity is pending with the Telecom Disputes Settlement & Appellate Tribunal. We have started 14 new businesses including surveillance and security, enterprise and broadband, which needs less investment and provides quicker returns,” he said. The company also has bulk SMS and international and national long-distance calling businesses.
