A new position at the Victoria Event Centre is aimed at preventing sexual harassment and assault. Consent captain Tanille Geib will support people who feel threatened and talk to others about their behaviour. Staff at the Victoria Event Centre say the move to hire a consent captain is linked to the #MeToo movement (Victoria Event Centre)If a person is not willing to talk about their problematic behaviour, they could be kicked out of the venue. A Victoria Police spokesperson says the department is aware of the consent captain position and supports "any business that is trying to protect its patrons." The consent captain will be present at most of the Event Centre's public events and will be available for private events if requested.
