His former supervisor, Dr Dominic Hyde who is a senior lecturer in philosophy at the University of Queensland, said Hopkins was a "brilliant philosopher". At the time of the student's death, only about a third of the rooms at the hall were occupied. SYSTEMS MUST PREVENT REPEAT - MINISTEREducation Minister Chris Hipkins told Stuff on Thursday he was unaware of the Victoria University student's death and had asked the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) to make inquiries. Providers had been asked to contact "every student" living in hostels to ensure there were no unexplained absences or issues, Hipkins said.
