Two men were hospitalised in Auckland on the first weekend of alert level one, after being hit by “coward punches”. National MP Matt King’s Coward Punch Causing Death bill is now effectively dead in the water. There was hope the bill, first drawn in September 2018, would go further given some recent attacks in Auckland. Stuff-co-nz National MP Matt King claims “cynical politics” are why his bill as voted down upon first reading. It sparked new calls for legislative change as King’s bill went through it’s first parliamentary reading just days later.
