CARACAS, Venezuela—A second day of demonstrations began in Venezuela as opposition leader Juan Guaidó attempts to bring renewed pressure on President Nicolás Maduro after an effort to turn the military against him failed to spur large numbers of defections among soldiers. Mr. Guaidó had called for an uprising on Tuesday, appearing with opposition leader Leopoldo López and a small group of rebel soldiers outside an air base in Caracas. Street clashes between thousands of protesters and pro-government forces followed.
