KUALA LUMPUR: The government has implemented various measures to expand its pool of specialist doctors nationwide, the Parliament heard today. Dr Izani had asked the ministry to provide the latest number of medical specialists in government hospitals and measures taken to address shortage of specialist doctors. Dr Hilmi said the ministry also encouraged medical officers to undergo specialist training through parallel programmes. He said other measures included offering retired specialist doctors to serve on contract basis at government hospitals. Dr Hilmi said there were 4,898 specialist doctors under the ministry as of Sept 30, this year.
