VANCOUVER—COPE council candidate Jean Swanson was released from prison on Sunday, following a seven-day jail sentence on Wednesday for an issue that has seen more than 200 people arrested for defying a court injunction to oppose the Trans Mountain pipeline extension. In a video released on social media, Swanson — with four others standing beside her, one of whom was former head of B.C. Teachers Federation, Susan Lambert — held up a handwritten press release outside of Alouette Correctional Centre for Women in Maple Ridge. StarMetro could not independently confirm why Swanson and others were released early on Sunday by the time of publication. The next step is the Kinder Morgan Ltd. shareholders’ meeting to approve the transaction scheduled for Aug. 30.
