We are a small country with a small talent pool. Yesterday, the SFA appointed their first VAR Manager – Jon Moss, a former top-flight referee in England. Our implementation of VAR under the previous Head of Referees, Crawford Allan, was very poor. Rightly or wrongly, the VAR Manager is going to get the blame for a lot of things. People will still moan about mistakes, they will still accuse referees and their overlords of bias, but the VAR Manager has clean hands.
