In January 2015, 3 people died, while another 3 were injured, when a car they were travelling fell into a 400 m deep gorge. Around eight people are reported to be dead in the accident while nine have been injured. Chakrata has been designated as one of the most accident-prone areas of the district of Dehradun by the district administration of the state.
