The final list of Awami League's nominated candidates have already been declared in 11 upazilas of Sylhet. A source from Sylhet Awami League said over 100 leaders in 12 upazilas of Sylhet have wanted nominations for the post of upazila chairman. In Gowainghat upazila, Awami League's Organizing Secretary in the United States of America Faruk Ahmed has announced he would contest in the polls against party-nominated upazila Awami League's General Secretary Golam Kibria Helal. In Sylhet Sadar upazila, Vice President of Awami League's Sylhet unit Ashfaq Ahmed has been nominated from the party again, while Sylhet unit's Joint Secretary Prof Sujat Ali Rafik is contesting against him. Among the remaining upazilas of Sylhet, Md Abu Jahid from Dakshin Surma upazila and Md Mostakur Rahman from Balaganj upazila will run for the election as Awami League's candidates.
