An alleged roof scammer who fled New Zealand using someone else's valid passport is the first person known to have done so, Customs says. James Nolan, 26, was allegedly part of the group of "unruly" tourists that arrived in New Zealand in early December. On Monday afternoon, Customs confirmed Nolan had left New Zealand from Auckland International Airport on January 26, using a valid passport that wasn't his own. "Customs is taking this breach seriously [and] staff are being reminded of the importance of visual checks and validating the identity of all travellers." Supplied Customs group manager for border operations Terry Brown said staff had been reminded of the importance of validating identity.
