KUALA LUMPUR: Unregistered aid groups trying to help the Rohingya may have worsened the situation in Cox’s Bazar, leading to stringent laws for existing registered groups. Mercy Malaysia senior programme officer Muhammad Abdullah Abd Wahab Ishari, who recently returned from Bangladesh, said some of the aid groups have not been using the right channel to provide help. He called on unregistered non-governmental organisations or aid groups to halt their aid mission for fear that it would lead to more problems to existing aid groups in the area. Meanwhile, Abdullah said Mercy Malaysia required RM3 million in funding for immediate relief on the ground as well as to help the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in Northern Rakhine. Its director president Datuk Dr Ahmad Faizal Perdaus said Mercy Malaysia has identified the necessities needed on the ground.
