An Uber driver has been arrested after a 20-year-old woman was sexually assaulted during an Uber ride, last month. On Sept. 23, Toronto Police said that the woman ordered an Uber just before 4 a.m. to be driven home from Thornhill to Toronto. A man picked her up, and she was sexually assaulted during the ride, the news release reads. Uber Canada spokesperson Susie Heath said in a written statement that the ridesharing company “take[s] every safety incident very seriously and are committed to the safety of everyone who uses Uber. They also said that its drivers go through “a rigorous screening process” that includes background checks with the RCMP and local police.
