Lisa Murkowski, a senator for Alaska, urged President Trump to “respect the integrity of the election process”Four more Republican senators urged President Trump to accept defeat as his efforts to thwart the election outcome in Michigan failed. Party officials at a certification meeting yesterday afternoon agreed that Joe Biden had won the swing state. Hours later, Mr Trump gave the go-ahead for the transition, though his statement fell short of a concession of defeat. Allies of Mr Trump had been hopeful that further investigations into whether fraud had occurred would be ordered after Norm Shinkle, one of four members of the state’s board of canvassers, stated that he was considering voting against certifying the state’s results. After a long and fractious meeting, though, Mr Shinkle abstained, while his fellow Republican, Aaron Van Langevelde, joined the Democrats in approving certification.
