In a city council election, separate to the presidential election, Oceanside City voters chose to keep Gary Ernst in the part time role, with a six per cent margin over challenger Nadine Scott in results announced on Wednesday (Thursday NZ Time), NBC reported. However, Ernst of natural causes died on September 23. Scott was hopeful that despite her concerns about the council's motivations, it would appoint her to the role.
