SEOUL/WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump said he was prepared to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for the first US-North Korea summit, marking a potentially dramatic breakthrough in nuclear tensions with Pyongyang. South Korean stocks were enjoying their best day since May, up 1.8 per cent, while the dollar rose against the safe-haven Japanese yen. He mocked US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in October for "wasting his time" trying to talk to North Korea. "Kim Jong Un talked about denuclearisation with the South Korean Representatives, not just a freeze," Trump said on Twitter on Thursday night. North and South Korea are technically still at war after their 1950-53 conflict ended in a ceasefire, not a truce.
