Fourteen coaches of the train went off the tracks at around 6pm in Khautali in Uttar Pradesh. One coach climbed atop another in the accident. The train was headed from Puri in Odisha to Haridwar in Uttarakhand. "14 coaches of the train have derailed, at this stage nothing can be said about the cause of accident," Anil Kumar Saxena , Additional Director General (PR) of Indian Railways said.
