The United Nations (UN) has reiterated its position saying it wants to see free, fair, and open elections everywhere, including in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on the Myanmar government to ensure unfettered humanitarian access in the Rakhine state. The UN chief also said he told the Human Rights Council that, in his experience, Rohingyas are one of the most discriminated against populations in the world, and that was even before last year’s crisis. The Foreign Affairs Council “adopted conclusions” on the situation in Myanmar, particularly in Rakhine state, which remains extremely serious. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini chaired the council.
