UN to honour two fallen Bangladesh peacekeepers


The fallen peacekeepers will honoured during a ceremony at the UN headquarters, reports UNB. Bangladesh is the second largest contributor of uniformed personnel to UN Peacekeeping. Among the fallen peacekeepers to be honoured are two from Bangladesh, Private Atiqul Islam of the Bangladesh Army, who served in the Central African Republic and Constable Md Omar Farouk of the Bangladesh Police, who was deployed in Mali. Created in 2016, the award “recognises the dedication and effort of an individual peacekeeper in promoting the principles of UN Security Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security”. "We also express our gratitude to the 95,000 civilian, police and military personnel currently deployed around the world.
