"We look forward to Bangladesh implementing its human rights commitments arising from the Universal Periodic Review and international treaties to bring about positive change for all in the country," said the UN office in Dhaka on Sunday, reports UNB. Peace, justice and strong institutions are highlighted in the goal 16 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs aim to significantly reduce all forms of violence, and work with governments and communities across the world to find lasting solutions to conflict and insecurity. The UN also welcomed the Bangladesh government taking an active role as a new member of the Human Rights Council. The Awami League, led bySheikh Hasina,formed the government for a third consecutive term after winning the 11th general election on December 30.
