Some form of national service is used in more than 80 countries around the world. Latvia restarted national service last year and Lithuania did so in 2015, while Estonia, Finland and Greece have had compulsory military service since the Cold War. Compulsory military service is legally recognised in China but it is not practised—- an example of a de jure system. Teenagers who complete national service could be prioritised for public service jobs while firms and universities would be encouraged to recruit them too.
