The UK's overseas aid agency DfID announced the fund on Thursday in addition to £3 million it has already donated for the persecuted ethnic minority. There, she heard about the sufferings of Rohingya refugees from four aid workers who recently returned to the UK from Cox's Bazar, where Bangladesh has sheltered the Rohingyas. British Charity DEC brings 13 leading UK aid charities together in times of crisis: ActionAid, Age International, British Red Cross, CAFOD, CARE International, Christian Aid, Concern Worldwide, Islamic Relief Worldwide, Oxfam, Plan International UK, Save the Children, Tearfund and World Vision. Bangladeshi-origin British MP Rushanara Ali, who is also the UK government's trade envoy to Bangladesh, International Development Parliamentary committee member Paul Scully MP and Chair of all party parliamentary group on Bangladesh Anne Main MP were also present. He called for more funds as, he said, the DEC member charities "urgently need more funds to reach as many people as possible".
