Bangladesh is set to build the country’s third 500MW back-to-back high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) sub-station in Comilla to import electricity from India. India’s state-owned NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd will supply 340MW power from several Bongaigaon power plants in Assam by December 2019, he added. Bangladesh proposed an additional import of 340MW in capacity from NTPC stations through a 500MW HVDC power sub-station in the northern part of Comilla. Once finished, Bangladesh will import 500MW of electricity from India through the new power substation. The state-owned Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Ltd (PGCB) is currently building the second such sub-station at the same site, to import electricity from India.
