"The EU also calls on all external actors to fully respect the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria," the statement added. France has also condemned violence targeting "civilians because of their faith" as well as prisoners. France called for independent investigations into the latest killings with its foreign ministry writing in a statement that Syria's interim government must guarantee "the preservation of Syria's ethnic and religious pluralism".
