European football's governing body UEFA has secured a High Court order requiring several internet service providers to block the illegal live streaming of matches for the 2020-21 season. UEFA sought the orders in proceedings against Eircom, trading as Eir, Sky Ireland Ltd, Sky Subscribers Services Ltd, Virgin Media Ireland Ltd and Vodafone Ireland Ltd. The scale of on-line piracy, UEFA claims, harms the competitions it organises. At the Commercial Court on Tuesday, Mr Justice David Barniville said he was satisfied to make the order sought by UEFA. The illegal streaming UEFA claims damages its ability to generate revenue from its broadcasting rights.
