Trials, with several days between the women’s 100 meters and the long jump when competition gets under way in August. Gatlin, 34, won the last Olympic gold by an American in the 100 meters in 2004 and will compete in his third Olympics in Rio. Entering Rio, each of the six members of the U.S. 100 meter delegation have world-championship experiences under their belt. In particular, the 4 x 100 meter relay teams were both felled at the 2008 Olympics after a series of management missteps and bungled baton passes.
