Qatar Airlines employee Gaurav Sharma entered guilty pleas to three counts of careless or inconsiderate driving at Rotorua District Court. A trip to Rotorua by an airline crew on a layover left one in hospital and a colleague facing a possible prison sentence after he did a U-turn in front of a truck. "As the truck approached, the defendant pulled out into the lane to complete a U-turn, directly into the path of the truck," the summary said. "The truck was unable to avoid the defendant's vehicle and T-boned the Mazda, pushing it along the road for approximately 60 metres." The Mazda suffered what was described as "extensive" damage and all the occupants had to be extracted by emergency services.
