The Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library acquired a book that it’s calling the Caxton Cicero, since the book, printed in 1481, did not have a title when it was published. The rare book library at the University of Toronto has acquired what is thought to be the oldest English-language book in Canada. The binding of the book is fairly contemporary, binded in the 1980s, but made to look like a 15th century book. Before acquiring the Caxton Cicero, the oldest English-language book in the Fisher collection was its 1507 copy of The Golden Legend, which it acquired in 2016. Carefoot said scholars in book history, classics, and medieval studies will all be able to make use of the book to further their studies.
